Finals Qualifying Rules

There will a 1-minute preliminary freestyle to qualify the top players into the freestyle finals. The top qualifying players in each division will be advanced to the 3-minute Freestyle Final. Each competitor will have 1-minute on stage to perform a freestyle in the style of play in the division they have entered. Players may enter more than one division.

The number of Final Freestyles for each division are as follows:
1A: 7 finalists
2A: 5 finalists
4A: 7 finalists

Players who will be competing in the preliminary freestyle of any championship division must be prepared with an appropriate music CD if they wish to use their own music. This CD must meet all of the requirements just as shown in the Performance/Freestyle Rules

There will be no required elements for the preliminary freestyles. Scoring will be based entirely on the technical execution of the tricks performed by the player. Judging criteria for the preliminary freestyles will be the same as the technical execution portion of the finals freestyles.

Note: There is no performance points/score in the qualifying segment of the competition.

Performance/Freestyle Rules

The timer starts when the music starts. No points will be scored for tricks done before the music starts, or after the 1-minute mark for preliminaries or 3-minute mark for the finals. All music must be considered appropriate for all audiences. Performers with inappropriate music (obscenities, offensive content, etc.) will be disqualified. If you are unsure about your music, a judge will be available to listen to your music and make sure it is appropriate. Music must be provided on a CD or CD-R. Disc must be clearly labeled (ie. track to be used, and contestant's name). Music burned to CD-R must be in standard audio format. It is the players responsibility to ensure that the music they bring to the contest is compatible with the equipment provided. Incompatibility issues from burned CD's, scratched CD's, or other problems are the players responsibility. If you have a music question or are unsure of compatibility, check beforehand. All musical CD's must be provided to the sound manager prior to the start of the freestyles for any division that a player is competing in. Mini-Disc, MDLP, CD-RW, and DVD formats are NOT accepted. Compressed formats such as MP3 or WMA audio files are NOT accepted. Music must be in one track. Music extended over 2 tracks or over 2 media is not acceptable. Music in the preliminary will be stopped between 1:00 and 1:01. Music in the final will be stopped between 3:00 and 3:01. Music less than the allotted time will be stopped after 1 track played. If the music is stopped accidentally, the contestant may choose to continue his or her performance from the point that the music stopped or restart their performance at the end of the division.

All actions of a performer must take into account the safety of the audience, the facility, the judges, and the player. Judges have the ability at any time to disqualify a performer for behavior they deem dangerous or inappropriate. While performing, only the contestant can be on the stage. Contestants can only use articles that they brought on stage. Contestants cannot use any yo-yos passed to the stage by others.
